Adrian has been carrying out research on the River Thames since the 1960s. Since then he has taken thousands of photographs, slides and (since 1996) digital images of the river. During the long hot summer of 1976 he carried out a photographic survey of the Thames between Hammersmith and Woolwich, including a detailed study, using slides, of the wharves lining the riverside.

For 25 years he gave in-depth commentaries on places of interest beside the River Thames, when he took large groups on specially chartered river trips to share his knowledge, especially between Westminster and the Thames Barrier. Many of the trips were carried out for the Museum of London.

The information on this Website is a 'taster' of his research on the subject of the Thames. An even more detailed description is contained in several publications in pdf document format. They contain additional items, every one fully illustrated with contemporary images and many others taken by Adrian in years gone by.
